Shoebox

So I've decided to use different shades of blue and red accents for our bedroom. The pattern you see on the pillows and the little storage box on the right bed side table was hand made by me. I had neutral colored pillow shames and I decided to give them a makeover. My fiancee and I are committed to being responsible consumers so we try to throw away as little as possible. Instead of spending ridiculous amounts of money on storage boxes, I cover old shoeboxes with fabric.

Looks good, right? Just don't look too close cause I kinda did a sloppy job. I'm not very good at being patient with hot glue guns.

So instead of cluttering my bedside table with books and journals, I have a little box that adds to the decorative coherence of the room!

Again, still a work in progress. I want to get rid of the ugly blinds. And add some framed pictures for the wall.

Kitchen

So if there's one thing that annoys me to no end, it's when people make that sucking noise when they are trying to get something out of their teeth. But if there are TWO things that annoy me, it is unpainted, unfinished Ikea furniture. Don't get me wrong, I love Ikea, but I don't love this shelf tower. It has been a thorn in my side for quite some time.

Also, when Geoff and I moved into this apartment in January, it became a place to throw random crap. So on Saturday I decided to wall paper the back part to see if it could help me hate it less.

Did I mention we don't have a linen closet?

It's a bit better. I kind of wish I had picked a different color for the wall paper. Maybe a blueish green or  something...The yellow blends into the wood and I don't think I want to paint it. Don't get me started on the freaking pole in the middle of the kitchen.

We'll call this a work in progress...

DIY Weekend Fun!

So this weekend I decided to tackle an awkward wall in our awkward bedroom. The bedroom is 15x8, it has one window that is off centered AND there is a vertical pole right by the off centered window. Needless to say, it is taking every creative bone in my body to figure out how to decorate this room. I know, first world problems. So...my nemesis has been a long, uninterrupted wall that measures 15 feet. At first, I though a gallery wall would be good but eventually decided on a faux mantle. Roll it!

We begin with a blank(ish) wall...

And then we painted some jars...

And then..

Voila! Sort of. The framed stuff is just a temporary earmark. I think I'm going to find a simple black and white stencil (maybe just Geoff and my initials on a white canvas). We'll see. It's a start!
